Creating and Configuring Models

This guide shows you how to create a new, empty model inside an existing project and open it on the model canvas, ready for further configuration.

Prerequisites

  • You have access to an existing project in Valsight.

  • You have permission to create models in that project.

Models and submodels

Once a model has been created, nodes can be built inside it to represent business logic. When a model uses nodes from another model, the two become linked. The referenced model is then understood as a submodel — a smaller, focused part of the overall model structure. Submodels are regular models; the term reflects their role in the structure, not a different object type.

For an overview of when and why to use submodels, see Models.

Steps

  1. Open the project where you want to create the model.
Select the project from the home or project overview.

  2. Open the Models section inside the project.
Navigate to the icon labeled Models on the Valsight Menu.

  3. Create a new model.
Select Add model in the top-right corner of the header.

  4. Enter the model details.
Provide a model name and, optionally, a short description.

    • Optional — Configure submodels: If this model should be able to use nodes from another model, go to step 3 of the dialog: Configure Submodels. Select the models whose nodes should be available here. You can skip this and configure submodels later by editing the model.

  5. Confirm creation.
Select Create to add the model to the project.

  6. Open the model canvas.
Select the newly created model by clicking its name or double-clicking its tile.

Result

You see an empty model canvas. The model is now created and ready for adding nodes, calculations, and structure.

Configure submodels on an existing model

You can add or change submodel connections at any time after a model has been created.

  1. Open the Models section of the project.

  2. Find the model you want to configure and open its Edit dialog via the model “…” menu.

  3. In the Edit Model dialog, go to step 3: Configure Submodels.

  4. Select the models whose nodes should be available in this model.

  5. Confirm the changes.

Result

The selected models are now linked. Their nodes are available for use in this model.
